Being nice means agreeing with everyone and turning a blind eye to lack of respect?
In today's world, to be real puts you out of place. Everybody else is fake.
Don't worry. If they cannot take your honesty, that means that they do not deserve it.
Imagine if we could make contact with aliens and they were smart beings. They would see that the average human works very hard every day to pretend, in matters of status and image, but do nothing to be real, unless the reality is overwhelming, like in a catastrophe or war, where nothing is left to create, only to salvage.
We are nice when we groom our egos.
Let's see beyond our egos, to an improved way of being, even if it won’t be possible for us to achieve it. Let’s think about the achievements of our species, our technology, our culture, our collective wisdom, as something to be improved for the beings that will come.
If I become better, I am improving the future, mine and yours. If you think that becoming better is accomplished by not letting others improve, or trying to worsen them, there is nothing desirable about the future.
I want you to get better even if you are already better. That inspires and encourages me to get better. The competition is with our own selves.
Perhaps our lack of honesty, our fetichism with appearances, will eventually drive humanity to face its reality in catastrophes and wars that would be terrible, but will finally bring us to face our reality.
